Funny Comment...

Hallie and Hunter have an obsession with looking for "BB's", the ones that shoot from the airsoft guns. Surprisingly, they find them everywhere. Everywhere!! Just today they found a red one which they continued to fight over. At the end of the night, we were sitting on the couch talking when Hallie starts talking about these BB's again.

Hallie: Grandpa shoots BB's. He shoots them at Wal-Mart.
Kara: (Confused) At Wal-Mart?
Hallie: Yea, he told me he shoots them at Wal-Mart.

I have no idea what she's talking about, so we sit for a brief moment of silence.

Then it hits me. And I start laughing before I can even explain.

Kara: Hallie - he doesn't shoot them at Wal-Mart. Grandpa shoots BB's at targets.

I can see where she would get confused!

9 Weeks...

We are back home again after being away for 2 1/2 weeks. Along our journeys, my beloved camera became very ill (i.e. got knocked off the table and broke the lens right off.) It is currently in California where I'm hoping someone will be able to breathe life into it once again. However it makes my weekly photos of Bennett slightly more difficult. Fortunately, we have a small point and shoot camera that I can use, but it's just not the same. The quality isn't quite there and it doesn't fire nearly as quickly as the other. But at least I can keep documenting. So here is week 9 in all its low quality glory...
9 weeks-
Bennett is now 2 months old! So much has changed, yet much of it is still the same.
He was a trooper on our recent trip. Over 40 hours in the car and very little of it was spent crying. Thank heavens for tender mercies!
We've had a few rough nights as far as sleeping goes but as of lately we're in a better place. Unfortunately, we do make him cry it out to start the night off, but it results in a much better sleep for all of us!
He's starting to smile a lot more. Hallie will sit and talk to him and play with him and gets such a kick out of it when he smiles back.
He is very aware of everything around him and he takes in the world through his big blue eyes.
He holds his head up pretty well and we've even tried him out in the bumbo chair already.
He has become more needy lately. I'm still trying to figure him out. He'll eat, sleep and be clean yet he still cries...a lot. I will hold him and he still cries. Its just weird. I'm not sure if he's in pain or what the deal is, but I'm hoping it's just a quick phase and he grows out of it soon!
He's still not a strong pacifier kid which I'm bummed about. He's also not a finger sucker.
He sleeps in a sack-like swaddle called the "woombie". I love it. So much better than the SwaddleMe we used with the previous kids.
He had so many people that love him and always want to hold him. He's once blessed kid!!

Shower in a box...

I received a surprise box in the mail just after Bennett was born. I recognized the return address as one of my good friends from Wisconsin but had no idea as to what was in the box.

I quickly opened it and found a box full of tissue paper and gifts.  I knew immediately what the box was. "Shower in a box" as one of my friends coined the phrase a while back. We had a friend who had moved from the area and was having her first baby. As much as we would've loved to have thrown her a shower she no longer lived near us. So we sent her a "shower in a box".

As soon as I saw all the wrappings I knew I had received that special "shower in a box." I opened each package making note of each amazing friend who had contributed to the box. Everyone was more than generous and I felt more than loved. I was reminded of all those special people we left behind when we made the move from Milwaukee. Immediately, memories came flooding back and I was more homesick for every single one of those friends than I had ever been. They were all so great and I missed them dearly. It was exactly what I needed at a time when I felt displaced and not myself.

To know some friends were thinking about me at that time was worth more than any of them will ever know. I am grateful for such wonderful people in my life. I love you all.

Splash Park...

While my mom was in town we ventured to downtown Tempe to check out the area. We originally went to rent a paddle boat but once we got there we realized with two small children we might be in for more of a workout than we anticipated. We found a small splash park next to the rental place but quickly realized that we didn't bring swimsuits for the kids. We debated whether we just leave the area and head to a nice dinner, or let the kids enjoy the park in their clothes. Steve and I are typically not the type to endorse the latter. But we let the kids decided what they wanted to do. You can tell which they chose.

What was so funny was the reluctance of the kids to actually get their clothes wet. We told them multiple times it was okay to get wet. But they wouldn't do it.

So then we told them they could only put their feet in,  and of course with that instruction they ended up getting completely wet.

We're hoping to make it back sometime soon with swimsuits and towels in tow!

7 weeks...

We're on vacation at Aspen Grove, so Bennett's background this week is our family reunion shirt!! Despite what the picture implies, he is having a good time!

And despite the fact that this picture shows him smiling...we just got lucky, he really isn't smiling yet!

Memorial Day Memories...

Steve and I had a fairly low-key Memorial Day Weekend planned; a family movie night, swimming, bbq, swimming and probably more swimming. But then a better plan presented itself with Steve's sister.

Naturally, I would've said no. I'm typically not a last minute person, especially for weekend trips such as this. I need more time to plan and arrange everything, to make sure everything is in order. But luckily I am married to a more spontaneous person than myself. So we rearranged the few things we had to do and jumped at the chance to go the their cabin up north.

It pays to be spontaneous at times. We had a great time.

Their cabin sits in a resort like setting on a golf course with a play area for kids, tennis, swimming, game center.

There was something for everyone.
The first day we were there the kids got their fill of unlimited cotton candy and sno cones. I had to limit Hallie and Hunter as I could see their teeth were going to be permanently stained red and blue. Our niece Allie on the other hand had no limits. I lost count of how many bags of cotton candy she ate.

Steve enjoyed some rounds of golf and we both enjoyed some tennis. It has been almost a year since I participated in any real physical activity (thanks to pregnancy) so it felt good to pick up a racket. It also made me realize how out of shape I am!!

Swimming was fun, but it was a windy day, so the kids didn't last long.

And although we loved spending time outside, we also loved the time we spent relaxing in the cabin. We played games, watched movies, ate good food and had a good time together.

We even made it out to see Kung Fu Panda 2 one evening.

The neighbor has a peach tree that has an abnormally large branch that hangs over the fence. Normally, one would not be pleased with an obnoxious branch that the neighbor neglects, but let me tell you there is no complaining here.

You see, the branch is overloaded with peaches. I didn't even know you could grow peaches here. But you can! And although they're not huge, they are delicious. I repeat: Delicious. I could easily sit by the pool, watch the kidlings swim around and partake of the goodness for hours on end. The only drawback is the slight stomach ache upon completing said task. But worth it.

I'm bummed out that I didn't realize how good they were until now because they are ripe. They are quickly turning over-ripe. I better schedule more "pool time" to increase my consumption.

And who says you can't get a free lunch/snack??
