Yesterday we got dressed up, me as a witch, Hallie and her monkey dressed up as puppy dogs, hopped in the car to head over to Bob and Virginia’s house, when I hear it. Is it true…Christmas music already? Don’t get me wrong, I am the biggest fan of Christmas music…but on the radio…on Halloween. It just didn’t seem right! I thought it was perhaps a Christmas song (Frosty the snowman) altered to be a Halloween. In fact the first part I heard was, “With a broomstick in his hand”, I kept waiting for the word pumpkin or witch, but it was the original Frosty the snowman. Unbelievable! But I didn’t let it put a damper on the night!!As crazy as it is, in Milwaukee they assign you your neighborhood Trick-or-Treat time. Ours has been the same every year, the Sunday before Halloween from 1-4pm. Lucky for us, Bob and Virginia’s neighborhood do Halloween right, October 31st. So we spent the evening with Bob and Virginia- We took Hallie out for some Trick-or-treating which turned out to be a disaster. We went to three houses, just three. And each one was so painful, Steve and I couldn’t bear the thought of going through another house. We ended back at Bob’s minutes after we left and ate dinner. Hallie took more pleasure in seeing all the kids (who she referred to multiple times as her friends) at the door trick-or-treating. It was a fun/relaxing night.
To make up for our great disappointment in Hallie’s ability to get candy, Steve and I more than compensated by hitting Target today and buying more than will be physically possible to eat in the next year. It’s really quite disgusting. But if you ever need a chocolate fix – you know where to go!
