When Hallie was really young, we made a conscious decision to separate the “fun” Easter celebrations on Saturday from the spiritual aspect of Easter on Sunday.
So Saturday is the day the Easter bunny comes, they get their treats, they do an egg hunt. It’s so nice to not have them on a sugar high as they go to church and it makes for a relaxed morning. I also broke the news to Hallie that the Easter bunny wasn’t real and that it’s just something we do for fun as a part of Easter. This leaves little room for confusion as to the real meaning of Easter. What was cute was Hallie walking out of church today talking about her lesson. “Mom, Easter isn’t about the eggs, or the candy, or the bunny, it’s all about Jesus.” It made me smile that she had that understanding!
So yesterday we had an egg hunt with just our two kids (knowing that the following day we would be doing one with cousins after dinner) and they had a great time. Hunter is at that discovery age where he would get so excited when he’d find an egg. Hallie is at a fun age as well because she actually knows how to look for the eggs, instead of just the ones lying in the grass. It was fun to watch them interact with each other as they both searched for eggs. And of course Hallie, with her best mothering skills, was so good to teach Hunter how to look for eggs and even showed him eggs that she had found so he could pick them up.
The only disadvantage to the egg hunt is the candy that comes with it. I filled a couple eggs with some spare change and they were a big hit. I think next year I’m going to do more money eggs (there was only $.5 -$.10 in each egg) and less candy eggs. That way at the end of the day I don’t have to fight them on how much candy they can consume!
fully expecting an easter baby!! well at least you could enjoy a fun holiday with the fam before the sleepless nights take over. count on us stoppin in sometime this summer. the way rose keeps saying hunter's name and staring at his pictures has me a little worried 🙂 cute kids!!
So cute! I great idea to separate the two. I great way to focus solely on the Savior. Great shots!
