Labor day seems like the end of all things summer. Its always at this point in the year, the pool seems to lose it’s interest. The kids head back to school and the pool starts to cool off considerably and they just don’t swim like they did during the summer. Labor day is the last big hoorah in the pool and we went out with a bang this summer. (I’m pretty sure our playing hard was the demise of my health and the reason Hallie and I got so sick!)
We started the morning at a pool party brunch. Monkey bread, blueberry coffee cake, fresh peaches and breakfast casserole. I never turn down a good brunch!
We rested up at home for just a bit before we went to Steve’s brother’s house for an evening BBQ with swimming and games. Steve’s parent’s returned from Ghana just days before so it was a fun celebration to have them back with us safe and sound. Steve’s arm is still lacking in strength since his surgery so many of the games he sat out. But you know what he could play? Bocce ball. And he played round after round.
Briggs went from hungry and tired to happy and ready to play in no time. There’s never a shortage of helping hands to hold him and he was okay with that. He even got some pool time with his cousins – his first pool experience and he was a champ.
The kids took turns jumping off the wall, playing games and performing synchronized dives. Cousins and the pool is a winning combination in our book. They swam for hours. I’m pretty sure Bennett yelled at me at least 20 times telling me his jump was going to be awesome and I needed to record it. I obliged every single time and each one is more hilarious than the last!
We’re happy to have our weary travelers home. We’ll be even more happy when whatever sickness has been lingering since Labor day will soon pass our house completely!
