The last week and a half was a blur. With the excitement of Thanksgiving, family in town and helping with the Turkey Trot we were a little busy and running from one thing to the next. So I’m playing catch up and posting a two for one with Briggs weekly photo. He was a champ as we put him down for naps in random places, woke him up when he was sleeping, and he got passed around from one cousin to the next. However, eventually it catches up with you, even when you’re a baby and by the time Thanksgiving was over he was done. He didn’t want to be held by cousins or aunts. He didn’t want to be content on the floor. He didn’t want to take naps. He didn’t want to do anything we expected him to do. How’s that for fun?!
And worst of all – with all the schedule changes – he decided he was done with the pacifier. Here he is on Thanksgiving day as he sucked his last suck!
For a child who has been soothed by a pacifier for 9 months, going cold turkey has been miserable. He just woke up one morning and when I tried to give him the pacifier he refused. I figured he was just bored with it and then I found a slit in the pacifier and I realized it wasn’t providing the suction he was used to. I tried switching it out. No luck. He hasn’t taken it since. Not at night. Not in his bed. Not for five days. And he needs it. I need it for him!
He must not be feeling well the last couple days and more than ever he needs to be soothed. And he won’t have anything to do with it. I should be happy. We take the pacifier away right at 12 months anyway, he just sped up the process. Here’s hoping he learns real quick how to soothe himself. I can’t take many more sleepless nights!
