Soccer season

Its fun when your kids start to show interest in things that you’re interested in. I grew up in a family that played soccer. My dad coached for years. I played club. I played high school. I spent a lot of time on the field. Hunter had never shown an interest – he’s a football fan through and through. But when you’re this age, playing with your friends is more important than playing your favorite sport – so he switched this last season to be with friends. I was so thrilled, I helped coach the team!

And you know what – he really enjoyed it. He scored goals, they won games and he ran his heart out. He was fun to watch, he was fun to coach and I really enjoyed spending time with all his goofy friends. They’re great. If you want to get to know your kid’s friends – coach their team. They don’t hold anything back!

This whole experience took me down memory lane more than a time or two – I forgot just how much I enjoy playing and watching. His love is football, but I think he’s a much better soccer player. (Lets be real – I don’t want him on a football field – soccer is a little easier on the body!)

I have to laugh as I look back at the grass in these photos. It was beautiful and green when we started the season in September and as winter crept in the grass went dormant and looks nice and…dead.
