Just a couple things I want to remember about this quick trip:

We ate at the Rainforest Cafe for dinner – a tradition we’ve had with each of the kids – we learned they’ll be tearing it down in two months to make room for another Disney hotel.

Bennett could choose a souvenir from the trip and he walked through all the shops before deciding on a stuffed snake from Rainforest Cafe that had sequin scales that change color as you move them from one direction to the other.

As we marveled at the sheer magnitude of Disneyland and all it’s merchandising glory (we were one of the few people not wearing something Disney related) we had to wonder if Walt Disney would be happy with what has been built or partially disgusted. Don’t get me wrong, it is an amazing empire – but how far off is it from what he had dreamed, what he had hoped it would become.

Bennett wore a happy birthday button with his name on it – he had to get used to people, he didn’t know, constantly wishing him a happy birthday. I love that all the cast members are so attentive to that button.

At the end of the day his favorite ride was space mountain. It was the first ride of the the day and we rode it two times in a row before it got busy. His second favorite ride was Finding Nemo Submarine which we didn’t think would rank on his list. I’m a roller coaster fan – bring on Space Mountain, Indiana Jones and the Big Thunder Railroad – unfortunately Matterhorn and Splash Mountain were closed.

Steve wagered a bet as to if we would run into someone we knew. I saw someone I knew from afar, but he said it didn’t count because we didn’t talk to them. Then coming off Indiana Jones, I ran into a high school/college friend. Oddly enough we ran into each other last summer at a rodeo and it had been years since we had seen each other. We both remembered being at Disneyland together our senior year when we were competing at the national Business Professionals of America. The world is a small place.

Cannon ended up getting sick while we were gone – I hate when other people have to deal with my sick kids. And then it passed to Briggs, and then me and then Bennett bright and early this morning. Here’s to hoping the other three escape it!
