Our annual Rock the Block neighbor party took place and as expected, it made us love where we live even more than we already did. What I love about this night is it’s not spent with the people we already know and spend time with – instead it’s spent meeting new move-ins, talking with people that we don’t cross paths with regularly and making connections.

I haven’t lived in a neighborhood before that has hosted an event like this on such a regular basis, but I’m convinced it’s how we stay so close and connected. Just tonight my neighbor (who is an empty nester) came over to let me know he and his wife are going to be out of town and wanted me to keep an eye on their house. The same man who noticed packages and newspapers piling up on our porch when we left for a long weekend and collected them for us and then chewed us out when we got home for not letting him know that we were leaving! 🙂 We genuinely care for each other and you can feel it within the neighborhood and this annual event is a reflection of that.

I’m sure glad they had a photo booth for proof that a couple of my kids were even there!

They got tired of taking off and putting on their shoes for the bounce house, so they opted to go barefoot. Eeeekk!
