Exactly two years ago from today, we started demo on our kitchen/pantry/game room remodel. Two years seems like such a short time and yet this seems like a lifetime ago.
I don’t think I’ve ever really posted many of the photos from our massive undertaking. I think I have some PTSD from the whole experience and looking back at the pictures make my muscles ache! The days and nights were so long getting this project going. We had 5 young kids living in a construction zone and it was hard. Although the construction area was sealed off, the mess bled everywhere and our temporary kitchen was a disaster at best.
I think our marriage can only handle one major kitchen remodel and we’ve now used up that opportunity! And yet I use that kitchen every day and it functions just how we hoped it would and it’s hard to remember what it was like two years ago!

Would love to hear more about your remodel process. We are starting into a full kitchen remodel and I feel overwhelmed with decisions and what I want versus what will actually work in the space.
My husband would say, “Don’t do it!”. Somewhat kidding. Somewhat. It was a long and hard process and it was much harder for him than it was for me. I enjoy projects and I’m very capable so I was very involved with the process and the actual work. Our remodel actually went very fast as far as remodels go and it was still too long for my husband. So if you have the chance to move out, do it!! The design/planning stage was actually very easy for me. I created my plan and then walked through that plan with several trusted people and they kept tweaking it with me until we landed on our final plan. One of our friends offered a suggestion that hadn’t even crossed my mind and it was a game changer for the flow of our space. I can’t imagine it the way we had planned originally. So talk that plan through with some trusted people to get all the feedback you can. You’ll ignore 90% of it, but the 10% you do take into consideration will be awesome. There are a couple things people suggested that I didn’t even consider and now I’m kicking myself for it. Luckily, they aren’t important items, but they would have been nice. (Such as adding an electrical outlet inside a cabinet in order to store all of our charging devices out of site). I’ve never gone through all the photos from our remodel but maybe I’ll get around to that someday. Good luck!
Hi Kara – I’d love to see more photos of this remodel. It looks so amazing! Alissa.
Hello – I realized when I went back to grab these pictures that I’ve never even gone through all the photos from the remodel. I’ll have to grab some more and add them to the blog!
