Hunter had a soccer tournament in Utah over Labor Day weekend. We’ve done this tournament before and took the whole family, but with Steve just returning from an international trip and Briggs having his own tournament at home we had to split for the weekend. I went to Utah with Hunter (and Hallie conveniently tagged along because she’s always looking for a change of scenery) and Steve stayed and managed home life.

We had a fun weekend of soccer – just wish we had a few more of our players who were unable to travel. We’ve been suffering through triple digit practices so the mid 80s was a nice change of pace. It was fun to have both my brother and Steve’s sister come and support Hunter since they don’t typically get to see him play.

We stayed with my brother and his family which was fun because he has two kids left at home and they are Hallie and Hunter’s age – cousin time is the best time. Steve’s sister lives just a mile from my brother so we were also able to see their family and spend time in their home.

We even made a morning run to the Layton temple before Hunter’s game – which is a beautiful temple that has recently opened.

Sadly, we did not advance to the championship game which meant we had an extra day before our flight home. With so much to do in the area, we had no problem filling our time.

Our Lake Powell family was gathering for the weekend so we made the hour drive north to visit for the day and Hunter made sure to get a surf session in. While the kids surfed, I sat around the table and caught up with friends. We talked about weddings and missions and engagements and sports and school every thing else heavy on our minds – we have been together in the trenches of motherhood from the beginning and I am grateful for each one of them.

Steve describes this place as heaven on earth and I can’t say I disagree. Although he loved getting picture updates from us, he would have preferred to be in the picture with us.

We left this and returned home to 110 degrees. We’re so hopeful this heat is going to break soon!
