Four years ago, we planned a trip to Washington DC with some friends. Then COVID shut most everything down and we decided it didn’t make sense to make the trip and we postponed. With Hallie heading off on her own adventure soon, we decided fall break was the perfect time to resurrect our DC trip plans and our friends agreed.

After spending last week there running in and out of every museum, I am grateful we didn’t make this trip four years ago when Briggs was four years old. That would have been significantly harder. Instead, we had the most enjoyable trip without any complaints of the museums or all the walking, and we walked a lot. This really is the greatest stage.

I think the upcoming election cycle made this trip a little more interesting for our kids. They’re talking about government in their classes right now and they were asking great questions as they made connections to what they’ve been learning and what they saw in DC.

And we made sure to balance all the learning with some fun. It helped we were traveling with friends and we were quite the sight with 4 adults and 11 kids! Briggs made sure to bring the fun as he carried his football throughout the city and he made sure to take advantage of every green space he could find to run a few plays. I think all the kids would have been happy with more national monument lawn time. They made up all sorts of games on that lawn and they could have stayed their all afternoon.

Between the phones and both the cameras Hallie and I carried, I’ve got my work cut out as I sort through all the pictures, but its about to be DC overload.
