Hunter went to his first high school dance this weekend and it lived up to the hype. Hallie loved going to dances and I wasn’t sure if it was because she’s a girl and it was fun to get dressed up – but Hunter came home with rave reviews. He asked one of his friends and they went with a group of friends and I could tell when we were taking pictures they would have a good time.

I invited Hallie to come and take pictures with me and she was having some serious throwback memories because we’ve used the same neighbor’s yard for so many of her dance pictures, including exactly one year ago when she was going to her senior homecoming. It seems weird she’s too old to go and Hunter is old enough to go!

After pictures they had dinner at one of the boy’s homes put on by the moms before heading to the dance with a quick pitstop at Circle K to grab drinks.

Dances are nothing like they were when I was in high school. (Remember waiting in line to get your pictures taken at the dance?!) There’s no slow dances. In fact you may or may not even see your date when you get to the dance. Instead its one large sweaty mosh pit and they think it’s the greatest thing and I love that for them. A good DJ is all they need!

After the dance they painted pumpkins and Hunter and his date came home with the grand prize ribbon (Spiderman).

He walked in the door late and sat in the chair in my office and gave me (and Hallie) all the details from the night. Hallie was always so good about sharing her night, I’m glad to see Hunter is carrying on the tradition. His first dance (which was also his first date) was a success and for that I am grateful. His date’s mom said he was such a gentleman in so many ways and I was relieved to know he took care of his date the way he should.

And tonight a poster showed up on our doorstep asking him to the next dance. We just finished a three year marathon of asking and answering for Hallie’s dances and we didn’t get a break before we’re back in it knee deep.

And just to document it – they did their “day date activity” a few days before the dance at a fall festival farm complete with a corn maze. They scheduled two hours to be there before it closed and they thought that would be plenty of time and Hunter said they could have easily stayed another hour.

And of course I love sharing the “ask and answer”.
