There is only one thing Hunter wanted to do for his birthday – He wanted to take his road test and get his driver’s license! So before he even went to school that morning, he was at motor vehicles services taking his test. And he passed with flying colors, not a single deduction on his road test. He’s already negotiating car rights because he’s sharing a care with Hallie until she leaves and he has all sorts of good reasons as to why he should drive here or there.

He asked for a special delivery for lunch, and I was a little surprised when he chose Panda Express.

Hallie left him some birthday messages on his mirror.

This may be news to some but teenagers are loving thrifted clothing right now. Because Hunter was born in Wisconsin, he has a deep love for the state and loves all the Wisconsin sports. So on our recent visit to Wisconsin for a wedding I made a quick stop at the a local Goodwill and I scored so many shirts for him. But there was one shirt I knew he would like more than all the others so I saved it to give to him for his birthday – a Green Bay Packers Super Bowl shirt from 2011 – the weekend we packed up our Milwaukee home and moved to Arizona.

He loved it and I felt like super mom after only spending $7.

After getting his license the second thing he wanted most for his birthday was being able to drive around with a friend and grab his free birthday treats. It’s a right of passage they only dream about for so long and on his birthday it became a reality.

A few days later, we were finally able to host some of his friends for treats and games. We played reverse charades, three deep and the dice game one and done. We had fun. I’ve been in mourning just a bit since all of Hallie’s friends left this summer for missions and school and this was just what I needed to remind me of how much I love our home full of teenagers. I’m ready to get to know Hunter’s friends at the level I knew Hallie’s friends – I hope he’s ready! 🙂
