Cannon had his second round of battle of the books right after he returned from Christmas break and being hospitalized – when his head was still a little foggy and he was struggling to read and process information. He was inching along in his fourth and final book and I’m not sure if he ended up finishing it prior to the battle but he was a still a force for good on his team and he knew every question.

His team ended the second round with a perfect score. And now he’s on to reading books for his third and final round. I’ve had several kids participate in this activity and I love it for so many reasons – but one reason is it encourages them to read books they wouldn’t normally pick up. Cannon has been pretty honest that many of the books are boring and hard to get through – but he has to finish them. He’s currently reading Sarah, Plain and Tall and I’m almost positive he would never choose that on his own. But he’s getting some great exposure to a variety of genres (Even if some of the books “are from the last century”!)
