Our time in Idaho this summer was unfortunately shorter than we’ve ever had – too many good things going on this summer.
But we made the most of the time we had – it was a non-stop party.
We enjoyed a small town 4th of July. Cousins. Fishing. BBQ. Red, white and blue. World Cup Soccer. Fireworks. Patriotic music.
We made our annual trip down the river – same river, just a different portion and we all enjoyed the change of scenery. We always bring enough tubes for everyone but all the kids end up cramming on two paddle boards which only adds to the experience.
I’m not sure how many World Cup soccer games we watched, but I do know we didn’t miss very many. One afternoon we were supposed to make the 30-minute drive over to my brother’s house and we decided we would leave after we finished watching one of the games. With just 5 minutes left in the game, Senegal was ahead 2-0 and we got in the car to leave. Just as everyone got buckled in, we saw my dad come running out of the house, “Belgium just scored!” We all unbuckled and ran back in the house. We couldn’t believe our eyes when we watched Belgium score again – two times in 4 minutes – to tie the game and send it into overtime. By this point, we were really late to my brother’s house so we decided we would bring the soccer game with us on the drive by watching it on the laptop. The drive was just long enough; we pulled into the driveway in stoppage time and watched the foul that forced a PK and sent Belgium to the next round.
Because we were watching so much soccer, that also meant we were playing a lot of soccer.
And when it wasn’t soccer, it was tennis. Hallie was working to find her groove again after the mission and the boys were preparing for sports camp. I live for these long light evenings.
They played hard. We stayed up late. We spent a lot of time driving to and from my brother’s house – because that’s where the cousins were. And is it even summer if we don’t play multiple rounds of the Game of Life?
Idaho was good to us just like it always has been.
