I walked in the door the other day, and I found Hunter and Steve sitting in the living room chatting. It was a school day, so everyone else was at school, but Hunter was home for a little bit before heading off to work. I’m not sure what the conversation was, but I could see they were deeply involved so instead of interrupting their moment, I quietly made my exit.

But not before snapping a picture. I want to believe that I’ll remember the overwhelming feeling of gratitude I felt when I walked in and saw the two of them together on the couch but I know memories fade and I want to remember this one.

Hunter is a good kid and he’s a product of his good father. Hunter somehow missed the memo that he’s supposed to be a moody teenager who gets bugged when his parents try to talk to him and find out what’s going on his life. He’s not loud and doesn’t love attention, but he does know how to lean in. And he’s a good conversationalist.

I’m happy when I’m on the couch in the conversation and I’m just as happy watching Steve in the conversation.
